Introduction

There are many resources that do not “fit” into any specific category, but have relevance to AOD counselors.   The following publications, Internet Web sites, online tools, etc. are applicable to your field and offer additional information about suicide and suicide prevention.

Institute for Research, Education, and Training in Addictions (IRETA)

 

IRETA works in partnership with the Pennsylvania Department of Health, Bureau of Drug and Alcohol Programs (BDAP) and has a mission to become a repository of information related to addiction research, health policy, prevention, intervention and treatment in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and to develop effective mecha-nisms to transfer that knowledge to the substance abuse field.

National Association of Alcohol and Drug Abuse Counselors (NAADAC)

 

NAADAC was founded in 1972 and is the only professional membership organization that serves counselors who specialize in addiction treatment.   NAADAC is the nation's largest network of alcoholism and drug abuse treatment professionals.

National Counsel on Alcoholism and Drug Dependence (NCADD)

 

The NCADD was founded in 1944 and provides education, information, help and hope to the public. NCADD advocates for prevention, intervention and treatment for AOD related needs and fights the stigma associated with drug abuse and dependence.

National Clearinghouse for Alcohol and Drug Information (NCADI) of the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA)

 

SAMHSA's NCADI is the Nation's one-stop resource for information about substance abuse prevention and addiction treatment.   The NCADI provides resources like publications and drug specific information as well as current news items relevant to health care professionals and members of the community.
