The national and international organizations working to better understand suicide and effective suicide prevention can be valuable resources for health care professionals as well as individuals with a desire to learn more about suicide and suicide prevention.

Harvard Injury Control Research Center (HICRC)

 

The HICRC is a university affiliated organization located in the School of Public Health at Harvard University and partially funded by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.   The focus of the HICRC is on the interdisciplinary study of the causes and etiology of injury and its application for the development and evaluation of prevention and intervention strategies and policy.   The HICRC attempts to accomplish this goal through teaching, training, and advocacy.

Harvard Youth Violence Prevention Center (HYVPC)

 

The HYVPC received funding from the Centers for Disease Control & Prevention in October of 2000. The HYVPC is based in the Department of Health Policy and Management at the Harvard School of Public Health, and their focus is on research partnerships and violence prevention within communities.

National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH) Suicide Research Consortium

 

The NIMH Suicide Research Consortium is a program of the NIMH and is comprised primarily of NIMH scientists who administer research grants. The Consortium coordinates program development in suicide research throughout the NIMH, looks for deficient areas in knowledge about suicide, stimulates and monitors research, and disseminates research based information on suicide to the public, media, and policy makers.

RE-AIM Workgroup

 

The RE-AIM Workgroup is affiliated with the Kansas State Research and Extension and the mission is to implement and evaluate an explanatory framework to measure how research translates to practice.   RE-AIM stands for: Reach into the target population, Efficacy or effectiveness, Adoption by target settings or institutions, Implementation-consistency of delivery of intervention, and Maintenance of intervention effects in individuals and populations over time.   RE-AIM targets researchers and community leaders as its intended audience.

Suicide Prevention Resource Center (SPRC)

 

The SPRC supports suicide prevention with the best of science, skills and practice. The SPRC is funded through a cooperative agreement between the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) and the Education Development Center, Inc. (EDC).   Additionally, SPRC works in collaboration with 10 partner organizations.   The SPRC provides technical assistance, training, and informational materials to strengthen suicide prevention networks around the United States and advance the National Strategy for Suicide Prevention.

Center for Therapy and Studies of Suicidal Behavior: University of Hamburg

 

The Center for Therapy and Studies of Suicidal Behavior is a treatment facility for suicidal people and center for research and education in suicide and psychotherapy.   The center is associated with the University of Hamburg and University Hospital Eppendorf.

IASR is a professional organization associated with the University of Wuerzburg located in Wuerzburg, Germany.   The objectives of IASR are the promotion of high standards of research and scholarship through communication and cooperation among research and suicidology scholars.

The IAS was established in 1996 as a professional organization to facilitate communication about suicide, promote awareness of suicide and suicidal behaviors, encourage relevant research in the field of suicidology, and support survivors of suicide.

National Centre for Suicide Research and Prevention of Mental Ill-Health

 

The National Centre for Suicide Research and Prevention of Mental Ill-Health was established in 1993 and became a national center at the Swedish National Institute for Psychosocial Factors and Health/Karolinska Institute in the same year. In 1997 the Centre was recognized as a World Health Organization collaborating center for suicide research and prevention.

Oxford University Centre for Suicide Research

 

The Oxford University Centre for Suicide Research is based in the University of Oxford Department of Psychiatry.   The primary focus of the center is the investigation of the causes, treatment and prevention of suicidal behavior through research, the dissemination of research findings, international collaboration efforts, and training offerings for researchers.

The Working Group of Research on Suicidal Behavior

 

The Working Group of Research on Suicidal Behavior is an association of scientists from Germany and German speaking countries interested in researching suicide.
