Media personnel have a unique role in the advocacy of suicide prevention. Accuracy in the reporting of suicide can greatly impact public perception, knowledge, and understanding.
Education in the fields of suicide and suicide prevention can help members of the media to have a greater understanding of suicide as well as the impact of suicide on family, communities, states, nations, and the world. Enhanced education using tools like books, online tools, courses, and organizations can help media personnel to accurately report on suicide and advocate for suicide prevention efforts. |

National Center Suicide Prevention Training (NCSPT)
The NCSPT is a U.S. not-for-profit organization providing educational resources to help public officials, service providers, and community-based coalitions develop effective suicide prevention programs and policies. The NCSPT was established in June 2001 and is funded by the Maternal and Child Health Bureau, Human Resources and Services Administration, and United States Department of Health and Human Services.
The NCSPT offers a series of regular workshops and courses on suicide and suicide prevention. Information on NCSPT training opportunities is available at the following Web address: |
