“I was surprised the first time that someone talked killing themselves, but realized that I knew what to do and didn't hesitate to immediately take the person to get a thorough health assessment. I felt so much better knowing that he was getting help rather than worrying about what he might do or what might happen.” -Anonymous |

| Introduction | ||
|
You may have heard this phrase, “Take care of your people”….
This means many things to the Soldier, Sailor, Airmen, Marine, Civilian, Reservist…
In many cases, it may mean life or death…
The facts Suicide is the 3rd leading cause of death in the US Military, after unintentional injury deaths and disease and illness. Military members under 25 years of age accounted for 48% of all suicides in the military. Over 95% of all military suicide victims are male (Reference 1).
Increasing knowledge of suicide including associated factors with suicidal thoughts and behaviors can help members of the military to protect the lives of those men and women with whom they work and live. Additional initiatives including awareness and action can help members of the military to continue effective suicide prevention efforts.
A compilation of all military (Army, Navy, Air Force) suicide prevention programs, training guides and materials is available at the following web address: |
