Introduction

An area where parents can find suicide prevention resources from diverse and numerous reputable sources that do not otherwise fit into specific categories of information is provided to further enhance parents' ability to find needed and appropriate information.

 

Below you will find publications, online tools, organizations, etc. that contain information specific to a parent's needs or that can be accessed for additional resources that will provide you with the information that you are looking for.

American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry (AACAP)

 

The AACAP is noted as one of the leading national professional medical association dedicated to treating and improving the quality of life for children, adolescents, and families affected by mental, behavioral, or developmental disorders.   The AACAP offers education, advocacy efforts, practice guidelines and systems of care, collaboration with other medical and mental health organizations, as well as promotion and support for research and training opportunities to accomplish its mission.

The Scout Association of Australia

 

The Scout Association of Australia is a private sector organization focusing on young people from six to 26 years of age and providing them with opportunities for fun and adventure as well as helping them to develop skills, gain self-confidence and learn teamwork and initiative.

The Surgeon General's Call To Action To Prevent Suicide

 

On July 28, 1999, Surgeon General David Satcher presented a comprehensive plan to prevent suicide in the United States. The document is entitled The Surgeon General's Call To Action To Prevent Suicide and outlines more than a dozen steps that can be taken by individuals, communities, organizations, and policymakers to prevent suicide in the U.S.   This report marked a great advance in the pursuit of suicide prevention efforts and awareness in the U.S.
